One aspect particularly important and close to the Headstrong heart is that of community engagement, and more importantly the sustainability and longevity of this engagement. Headstrong are always on the lookout for new ways in which we can give back to our local communities and how we can contribute towards ensuring that the changes experienced extend well into the future, making differences long after our initial intervention.
In 2014 the Headstrong team joined forces with The Goodsport Trust, a small NGO run by a dedicated team of professionals passionate about improving the lives of the youth in our communities through physical activity and sport. The Goodsport Trust vision is to create a national framework for physical education and sport that gives all South Africans the opportunity to grow, compete, and excel regardless of economic circumstances, or social and cultural background. The Goodsport Trust is leading the way in the implementation of physical education programmes in schools, long-term coach development, infrastructure development and facilities development.
Headstrong have joined a small team that are currently developing and facilitating a multi-phase programme for a group of young individuals within the Lavender Hill community. The programme is designed to expose this group to a multitude of different theoretical as well as practical material all aimed at empowering the individuals and encouraging them to use learning, physical activity and sport as a catalyst for further sustainable growth, leadership and change in their own community.
